Abstract
Database (DB) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) courses have been long-standing offerings in computer science curriculums. Due to the present-day need for "intelligent" databases and "knowledge-base" management systems, the technologies of database and artificial intelligence are increasingly being integrated in research. Academia can give recognition to this important movement toward integration. An approach to teaching database and artificial intelligence concepts emphasizing their capabilities, limitations, and the need for integrating their technologies is proposed. An introduction gives a brief history of past and current practices. Reasons why the current routine should be modified are discussed. State-of-the-art information concerning current research in this area is presented, and finally, a course outline is suggested.
