Abstract
This paper shows how both the microcode and the underlying hardware can be described together in a modular fashion in an Ada1-like environment. The description of the hardware uses libraries of component descriptions. The microcode description identifies the machine dependent portions, thus facilitating the portability of machine independent microcode to new architectures.

Experiments in Automatic Microcode Generation
A procedure is described which permits applications problems coded in a higher level language to be compiled to microcode for horizontally microprogrammed processors. An experimental language has been designed which is suitable for expressing ...
The implementation of Prolog via VAX 8600 microcode
We have implemented a high performance Prolog engine by directly executing in microcode the constructs of Warren's Abstract Machine. The implementation vehicle is the VAX 8600 computer. The VAX 8600 is a general purpose processor containing 8K words of ...
A Hierarchical Description Model for Microcode
In the paper, a structured and formal way to define microcode and to model a microprogrammed machine in terms of microoperations and their collection in microinstructions is proposed. It is characterized particularly by the hierarchical subdivision of ...
