Metrics such as click counts are vital to online businesses but their measurement has been problematic due to inclusion of high variance robot traffic. We posit that by applying statistical methods more rigorous than have been employed to date that we can build a robust model of thedistribution of clicks ...

A graphical interactive technique for modeling bivariate simulation inputs is based on a family of continuous univariate and bivariate probability distributions with bounded support that are described by Be´zier curves and surfaces, respectively. This family of distributions has a natural, extensible parameterization so that all parameters have a meaningful interpretation; ...

In this paper we propose an extension of the NM-landscape to model multi-objective problems (MOPs). We illustrate the link between the introduced model and previous landscapes used to study MOPs. Empirical results are presented for a variety of configurations of the multi-objective NM-landscapes.

Current blog opinion retrieval approaches cannot be applied if the topic relevance and opinion score distributions by rank are dissimilar. This problem severely limits the feasibility of these approaches. We propose to tackle this problem by fitting the distribution of opinion scores, which replaces the original topic relevance score distribution ...

With the rapid development of the information technology, there exists the difficulty in deploying state-of-the-art retrieval models in environments such as peer-to-peer networks and pervasive computing, where it is expensive or even infeasible to maintain the global statistics. To this end, this paper presents an investigation in the validity of ...

Mixed Weibull distribution is a probability distribution noted for its wide applicability in many diverse fields. The ability to accurately estimate mixed distribution parameters is essential for data-driven modeling, simulation, and analysis of the phenomena represented by mixed Weibull models. Nature-inspired metaheuristics for continuous parameter optimization have shown good potential ...

There exist a wide variety of network design problems that require a traffic matrix as input in order to carry out performance evaluation. The research community has not had at its disposal any information about how to construct realistic traffic matrices. We introduce here the two basic problems that need ...

In this paper, we present HyperStar2, a tool for fitting Markov Arrival Processes (MAPs) to empirical data. HyperStar2 uses a two-step approach, where the first step is cluster-based fitting of phase-type distributions and the second step is the construction of a correlation matrix. In the first step, we use the ...

Data centres are playing a pivotal role in all cloud-based services (e-commerce, social networks, financial services, e-government, etc.). The performance of data centres is crucial for the acceptance of all these services by end-users. It is important to carefully design data centres with both performance and energy considerations in mind, ...
